Ethiopia, Algeria seek to forge cooperation on trade and energy regulation

Addis Ababa, March 24, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia is committed to expanding its trade relations with other African countries, according to the nation’s Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Mr. Kassahun Gofe.

The Minister reiterated his country’s desire to deepen its trade and economic engagements with fellow African nations during his meeting this morning with an Algerian delegation headed by the North African country’s Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines & Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab.

On the occasion, the two dignitaries engaged in extensive discussions on trade and energy regulation cooperation between the two countries.

During the course of the discussion, Mr. Kassahun Gofe (PhD) recalled that Ethiopia and Algeria share historical ties. He also asserted Ethiopia’s commitment to expanding trade relations with African nations, as well as the initiatives the Ethiopian government is undertaking in this regard.

They also explored avenues to strengthening trade ties between the two nations.

It was indicated that Algeria has considerable experience in energy development and management.

Both sides have also agreed to conduct technical and training exchanges to support the work of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) in this area.

The Algerian delegation expressed its appreciation for the macroeconomic reforms implemented by Ethiopia and the tangible results achieved.

It is worth noting that Minister Mohamed Arkab arrived this morning in Addis Ababa on a two-day (24-25 March 2025) working visit.
