Ethiopia, ADF sign $84.3mln grant agreement to improve wheat productivity
Addis Ababa, August 2, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the African Development Fund (ADF) signed a grant agreement amounting to a total of 84.3 million US dollars (approximately 4.5 billion ETB) of which 54 million USD from the African Development fund, 20 million USD from the government of Netherlands, 10 million USD from OCP Africa and 0.3 million USD from global center for adaptation (GCA), respectively.
The Ministry stated that the project aims to improve wheat productivity and production thereby increasing the incomes of small-scale wheat farmers in Ethiopia.
Hence the project consists of three components, which are Climate Smart Wheat Productivity and Production, Market Infrastructure, Linkages, and Agri-Finance; and Project Coordination and Management. This particular project will support Government wheat self-sufficiency initiatives. The project is designed to be implemented for the next five years.
The Agreement is signed between Ahmed Shide, Minister, Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Abdul Kamara, Deputy Director General East African Region, African Development Bank, representing the Government of Ethiopia and the African Development Fund, respectively.
