ERCS reaffirms commitment to bolster Ethiopia’s response to health emergencies
Addis Ababa, June 13, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) in partnership with Management Sciences for Health (MSH) has launched the “USAID Ethiopia Health Resilience Activity” project aimed at supporting the nation to build a local-level culture of preparedness and effective response to public health emergencies.
In a launching event that took place at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) National Training Center, USAID bestowed a five-year-long project for ERCS and MSH.
Accordingly, ERCS and MSH will work with an array of public and private institutions to enhance community expertise and decision-making power to manage health emergencies, ultimately leading to less death and disease from those emergencies and the interruptions in health services they cause.
Speaking on the occasion Getachew Ta’a, Secretary General of ERCS asserted the Society’s commitment to realize the project with MSH and other concerned stakeholders.
“ERCS is fully committed to realize this project, which undoubtedly bolster and bring the Nation’s Response to Health Emergencies to a new height”
Furthermore, he lauded USAID for funding the project and MSH for partnering with ERCS to carry out the project.
Dr. Daniel Gemechu MSH country representative on his part uttered that, his institution is very much contented to partner with Ethiopian Red Cross Society for a joint mission.
He assured that the project would bring notable results for the nation.
Likewise, USAID Ethiopia Deputy Mission Director Timothy Stein also asserted a commitment to extend support to ensure the realization of the project.
It is noted that the event was attended by Dr. Lia Tadesse, Minister of Health, Dr. Nonhlanhla Dlamini, Deputy WHO Representative to Ethiopia, and representatives from EPHI among others.
