ERCS, IFRC vow to elevate emergency responses efforts of EDRMC

Addis Ababa, July 9, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has warmly welcomed the solicitation of the government to be part of the Disaster Risk Management Council

Senior officials of Ethiopian Red Cross Society and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Governing Board Oversight Group met Ambassador Shiferaw Teklemariam, Commissioner of Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC).

In an open discussion, common interest and enthusiasm to further deepen cooperation between Ethiopian Red Cross Society and movement partners were highlighted.

Commissioner Ambassador Shiferaw Teklemariam expressed enthusiasm to see Ethiopian Red Cross Society playing a prominent role in the newly established Disaster Risk Management Council.

President of Ethiopian Red Cross Society, Abera Tola also valued the recognition given by EDRMC to the overall engagements of the Society.

Ethiopian Red Cross Society welcomes the view of joint efforts in providing emergency responses.

Secretary General of Ethiopian Red Cross Society, Getachew Ta’a for his part uttered his keenness to work being part of the new initiative “Disaster Risk Management Council”.

He added that the Society would bring its robust potential for its success.

On the occasion, issues in the sphere of scaling up multi-sectorial cooperation through aligned operational plans, tools and mechanisms were discussed.

In line with the discussion, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Governing Board Oversight Group and senior officials of Ethiopian Red Cross Society explained the joint efforts of the movement in providing humanitarian support for the nation.
