EPHI, WHO conduct table-top exercise on COVID-19
Addis Ababa, March 5, 2020 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), is conducting a table-top exercise (TTX) on COVID-19 to examine preparedness response mechanisms to the virus.
TTX is an exercise that uses a progressive simulated scenario, together with series of scripted injects, to make participants consider the impact of a potential health emergency on existing plans, procedures and capacities.
Dr. Ebba Abate, Director General of EPHI, in his opening remark said that the engagement of different government sectors and development partners is very necessary in such situations.
“This health emergency preparedness simulation exercise will have significant impact on the preparedness and clearly showing the improvements that must be made,” added Dr. Ebba.
The TTX is prepared based on the WHO monitoring response implementation checklist for COVID-19 and designed for national level operational stakeholders involved in public health emergency preparedness or response.
Representatives from EPHI’s Public Health Emergency Operation Center, WHO, CDC, Ministry of Defense and Industrial Parks are participating in the exercise.
