Ensuring participation of women vital in addressing climate change impacts
Addis Ababa, November 13, 2023 (FBC) – Ensuring the participation of women crucial in addressing climate change impacts, according to Ambassador Mesganu Arga, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The State Minister stressed his verdict while addressing the 4th workshop session regarding the 28th meeting of the COP 28 to be taking place in December 2023 in Dubai, held today in Addis Ababa.
The workshop which is held under the theme:“Empowering Women in the Public Sphere & Climate Spaces” was organized by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Addis Ababa, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and the UNESCO Office in Addis Ababa.
During the event, issues related to empowering women for the achievement of Ethiopia’s nationally determined contribution are discussed among others.
Ambassador Misganu Arga, during his opening remarks, underscored that the interconnectedness of women empowerment and climate change demands collective efforts to create a more just and sustainable future. “When we empower women, we unlock a wealth of talent, creativity and resilience that is essential in our battle against climate change”, Mesganu reckoned.
According to him, Ethiopia is aiming to reduce its vulnerability to the adverse effects of climate change by enhancing crucial role in conservation, sustainable agriculture, and community resilience through its ambitious Climate-Resilient Green Economy Strategy and the National Adaptation Plan.
Ambassador Mesganu also appealed for the commitment of all to break down barriers, promoting gender equality and taking bold action to safeguard our planet and ensure a brighter future for generation to come.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, diplomats and representatives of concerned institutions participated on the workshop.
