Engineers Fix Gibe Dam Crack without Discharging Content

Addis Ababa, November 1, 2021 (FBC) – Professionals has been able to mend a crack on Gibe 1 power generating Dam without removing the water from the Dam.

Gibe 1 power plant head Desalegn Nigussie says a crack with 1.5 meters circumference area has been maintained using technology into a depth of 18 meters, inside the Dam.

This has thus enabled the power plant to keep the existing water volume for the Dam sustains its full power generation capacity, adds Desalegn.

The Chinese construction firm CGGC took part in the maintenance works.

Gibe1, starting power generation some 17 years ago, is said to have the installed capacity of 184MW power generation.
