Embassy, UNIDO’s ITPO to co-organize Ethiopian investment seminar in Tokyo later this month
Addis Ababa, June 11, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Embassy in Tokyo in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)’s Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) will co-organize Ethiopian Investment Seminar at the United Nations University in Tokyo on June 27, 2023, according to UNIDO Office in Japan.
Citing the dashboard of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UNIDO ITPO reminded that Ethiopia currently has a population of 126.5 million, of which 75% are young people up to the age of 24, making it one of the most promising countries both as a market and as a production base.
UNIDO ITPO further reminded that the Ethiopian government is working to further introduce a market economy system and promote trade and investment, with the goals of reducing poverty, improving unemployment, and enhancing productivity and competitiveness.
In recent years, a new investment law has been enacted, commercial registration and business approval procedures have been digitalized, reforms are being undertaken in the telecommunications, finance, and the banking sectors in Ethiopia, it was mentioned.
At the seminar, the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) and the Industrial Parks Development Corporation of Ethiopia (IPDC) are expected to introduce the latest investment environment, incentives and opportunities in Ethiopia, and lectures will be given by representatives of private companies who are finding business opportunities in Ethiopia.
Among others, Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commisssion Ms. Lelise Neme, Director of UNIDO Office in Tokyo Mr. Fumio Adachi, CEO of IPDC Mr. Aklilu Taddese, UNIDO Tokyo Office Advisor in Ethiopia Mr.Tadesse Segni, and Ethiopian Ambassador to Japan Mr. Daba Debele are expected to be present at the Seminar.
It is also stated that the Japanese External Trade Organization will provide support to the success of the event.
