Electoral board announces number of constituencies

Addis Ababa, March 14, 2020 (FBC) -The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia has released the number of electoral districts (constituencies) for the upcoming general election.

According to the announcement made by board during a consultative forum held with leaders of political parties and civil society organizations (CSOs), there will be a total of 547 constituencies.

Accordingly Tigray will have 38 constituencies, Afar 8, Amhara 138, Oromia 178, Somali 23, Benishangul-Gumuz 9, SNNP 123, Gambella 3, Harari 2, Dire Dawa 2 and Addis Ababa 23.

Ethiopia will hold a general election on August 29, 2020. The final results of the election will be announced 30 Aug-8 Sep.

In a related development, training on election dispute resolution is being given for judges at federal and regional courts.

The training was opened by Solomon Areda, Vice President of the Federal Supreme Court.

Dr Getahun Kassa, a member of the NEBE, provided in-depth explanations to the attendees on Ethiopian election, political parties registration and election ethics.
