Election concludes in most places of Ethiopia, polling stations conducting ballot counting
Addis Ababa, June 21, 2021 (FBC) – In a press briefing held on Monday evening, Chairperson of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia, Birtukan Mideksa said almost all constituencies and polling stations have successfully concluded the election despite some challenges.
She indicated that some constituencies and polling stations encountered some challenges related to shortage of ballots and unjustified interventions by local officials in some areas.
Birtukan said the board received some complaints regarding various circumstances and resolved several issues raised by poll officiers, candidates and other actors of the election.
A polling station in East Harerge Zone was not opened due to security threats while two polling stations in West Shewa Zone canceled process over disagreements among poll workers and local officials.
Some constituencies that faced serious problems related to shortage of ballot papers are set to conduct voting tomorrow as per electoral proclamation.
Poll workers in several constituencies and polling stations have announced successful conclussion of voting process as some have already started ballot counting.
Dire Dawa city and Debre Birhan town and other polling stations in several parts of the country announced successful and peaceful conclussion of the voting process as poll workers in Debere Birhan constituencies and stations said they are counting ballots.
It is to be recalled that The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia announced in a statement that voting would continue until 9 p.m and the deadline is now over.
Hawassa City has also concluded elections and its constituencies and polling stations have begun ballot counting.
The board has stated this evening that ballot-counting would begin right away and that every polling station would post their respective results.
