EIC, stakeholders discuss the Special Economic Zone draft directive
Addis Ababa, December 30, 2024 (FMC) – The Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) held a consultative workshop meeting with the stakeholders on the draft of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Directive today.
Opening the consultative workshop, the EIC Chief Commissioner, Mr. Zeleke Temesgen, said that the government of Ethiopia has undertaken comprehensive reforms in the economic sector including in the SEZs, trade, and financial sectors with a view to creating conducive investment environment.
The Commissioner highlighted that the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Proclamation has been ratified recently to broaden the investment sectors that foreign investors have engaged in and enhance the participation of investors in the national economy.
He further said that the main objective of today’s workshop is to collect feedback from the stakeholders on the draft Special Economic Zone Directive and incorporate all the necessary comments on the draft SEZ Directive.
The Commissioner finally reaffirmed that his Commission is more than happy to provide all the necessary support to the investors.
While giving effective feedback, the participants appreciated EIC’s effort to engage them in the consultative meeting, adding that this will help implement the new directive effectively and smoothly.
They further stated that incorporating stakeholders is important whenever reforms are undertaken in the country, and this is a good lesson even to other areas of spheres.
