EEU: $400m worth of electric projects underway to light up 200 rural towns
Addis Ababa, April 18, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Electricity Utility (EEU) has disclosed that activities are being undertaken to provide electric power to more than 200 rural towns far from the national grid.
It is stated that EEU, in collaboration with non-governmental organizations and associations engaged in the sector, has started activities to provide electric power to more than 200 rural towns that are far from the main grid through the ADELE Programme.
It is also said that the National Electrification Programme is working to provide 65 percent of the required electric power from the main grid and 35 percent from alternative energy sources to the population of the 200 rural towns.
EEU indicated that a total budget of 400 million USD has been reserved for the projects.
The project aims to provide economic benefits to people living in areas of the country far from the main grid and to ameliorate their livelihood, EEU further indicated.
