EEPA DG praises P4G’s assistance to Ethiopia’s undertakings to transition to green economy

Addis Ababa, September 5, 2023 (FBC) – The Director General of Ethiopian Environment Protection Authority (EEPA), Getahun Garedew has commended P4G – Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 for the support in enlisting the business sector for Ethiopia’s transition to a greener economy.

The Director General expressed his appreciaition to Partnerships for P4G in a bilateral meeting with Global Director Ms. Robyn McGuckin on the sidelines of the 23rd African Climate Summit (ACS23) in Nairobi.

Getahun outlined Ethiopia’s aims for private sector participation during a more in-depth roundtable session. He explained to the director how P4G helps to develop the expertise of public sector professionals who work with private sector organizations such as the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sector Association to coordinate private sector activities.

Applauding P4G’s assistance and involvement in enlisting the business sector for Ethiopia’s transition to a greener economy, the EEPA DG mentioned that the LIFE-AR initiative has aided local communities in their contacts with environmentally friendly local communities in this regard.

For her part, Ms. Robyn likewise said that her organization’s priority area, which primarily focuses on small and medium-sized businesses and start-ups that want to engage in the green economy, is clearly aligned with Ethiopia’s interests. She also brought up the significance of and P4G’s involvement in the extension of restoration efforts in Ethiopia.

It is stated that the authorities agree to continue closely coordinating the P4G role.

Partnering for Green Growth (P4G) and the Global Goals 2030 is a global network that provides financial support to partnerships led by the private sector to help businesses grow sustainably. Around 12 projects in the sector are facilitated by the Ethiopian P4G national platform, which was formed in October 2017.
