EDRMC calls for urgent nutritious food assistance to the vulnerable
Addis Ababa, March 18, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC) appealed for increased supply and distribution of nutritious food to the vulnerable sections of the society affected by man-made and natural disasters.
Children, pregnant and lactating mothers, and the elderly living in conflict and drought-impacted areas are more susceptible to various disasters.
The Public Relations Director of the Commission, Debebe Zewde, said that the necessary nutritious food should be provided to these sections of the society as soon as possible.
Speaking to Fana Broadcasting Corporate’s Melaku Gedif, the PR Director warned that if this need is not addressed immediately, serious crisis is inevitable to the susceptible citizens due to the pressure and multifaceted disasters.
He also pointed out that there are 1,286,400 endangered members of the society due to the conflict in the northern part of Ethiopia.
Debebe elucidated that in the second humanitarian aid distribution process, more than 500,789 metric tons of nutritious food was distributed to beneficiaries by the Ethiopian government and partners.
Emphasizing that there is a large number of vulnerable sections of the society, he underlined that urgent supply of nutritious food is critical.
The official has urged governmental and non-governmental organizations, partners and prominent citizens and the Diaspora to respond swiftly to the demand and provide the necessary humanitarian support.
