ECSOC commends efforts being made to ensure lasting peace in northern Ethiopia
Addis Ababa December 28, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council (ECSOC) commends the efforts being made to ensure lasting peace in the northern part of Ethiopia as well as to sustain the Pretoria deal.
In a press release sent to FBC the Council expresses its confidence that the visit made by a high-level delegation of the Federal Government to Mekele is another milestone contributing to the successful implementation of the peace process.
It is to be recall that a delegation of senior government officials led by the Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, paid a visit to Mekele on December 26, 2022.
This is the first time federal government officials are visiting Mekele since the resurgence of the armed conflict in the Northern part of the Country the ECSOC stated.
The statement adds the visit to Mekele by senior government officials indicates the progress of the implementation of the peace agreement and the continuation of the initiative to end the armed conflict in the region.
In this regard, the Council recognizes that the steps taken are of great importance to all affected by the conflict in repairing social cohesion and returning people affected by the conflict to their normal lives.
In connection, the Council also applauds the encouraging steps taken towards the restoration of public services such as electricity, telephone, Banking and air transport in Tigray.
Finally, the Council stresses that all parties should work diligently to ensure that the peace agreement is implemented in good faith and in the interests of the country and the people of Ethiopia.
