Eastern Africa Standby Force experts’ discussion kicks off in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, February 9, 2023 (FBC) – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) policy makers’ discussion has kicked off in Addis Ababa.
It was indicated that the discussion aims to build a capacity that can prevent and avoid the threats to peace and security in the Horn of African region.
Chairperson of the Experts’ Group at EASF, Major General Teshome Gemechu said that the discussion is part of the Nairobi conference held last October.
Studies and policy reforms will be carried out that will increase and improve the capacity and ability of the institution, he said.
The chairperson of the group also explained that efforts are in progress to establish EASF’s own Security Council to fight cross-border crimes and terrorism in order to maintain the peace and security of the continent.
It is stated that the Security Council will have a strong presence with the support of the member states and will meet regularly.
