DPM, FM Demeke receives U.S. Special Envoy for Horn of Africa, Mike Hamer

Addis Ababa, April 23, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen received at his office today U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Amb. Mike Hammer.

The two sides deliberated on ways of further consolidating traditional ties between Ethiopia and the U.S. and addressing security challenges in the region.

On regional issues, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister noted that Ethiopia is playing a constructive role and stands by the people of Sudan in their effort to bring lasting peace.

Hammer said the U.S. continues to support efforts to ensure peace and prosperity in Ethiopia, apart from its desire for positive relations.

The Horn is becoming more challenging, Mike Hammer said, calling for concerted effort by the international community to bring peace and stability.
