DPM & FM Demeke confers with UN High Representative Rabab Fatima
Addis Ababa, January 18, 2022 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Demeke Mekonnen has received Rabab Fatima, UN High-Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States at his office.
The two discussed ways how to support development endeavors of least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing states.
Demeke noted that least developed and landlocked developing countries must strengthen their South-South Cooperation to achieve their poverty reduction and achieve their sustainable development goals.
Demeke stressed need to reinforce concerted diplomatic efforts among the countries on international platforms to plea more financial assistance from the developed nations, highlighting the role of the Doha Forum in this regard.
Rabab Fatima, for her part, reiterated UN’s commitment to pull least developed and landlocked developing countries out of poverty and help them to take the right path to economic transformation
She also underscored that Ethiopia, as member of the bloc, has a big responsibility to support the fight against poverty in order to channel development and economic growth aspirations of least developed countries
