DPM & FM Confers With President of World Anti-doping Agency
Addis Ababa, March 27, 2023 – Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen met today with the President of World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) Witold Bańka.
During the deliberations DPM & FM Demeke underscored sport as one of the tools of diplomacy that play important role to enhance cooperation between and among nations.
Ethiopia is home to elite, world-class athletes and that the Government of Ethiopia will work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders including WADA in the fight against doping, Demeke told Bańka.
Witold Bańka President of WADA, on his part, lauded the efforts to Ethiopia to contain the impact of doping in sports and reaffirmed continued support to strengthen institutional capacity.
It is the firm position of the GoE that all sports should be practiced in a clean and doping free environment, to this effect it promotes an effective way of fighting against doping in all sports by focusing on several areas to ensure a harmonized approach to anti-doping, the President has stated.
