DPM Briefs UNHCR Official on Refugees in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, October 23, 2021 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, on Friday held talks with the UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, Rauf Mazou, at his office.
Demeke briefed Mazou on the current status of refugees in Ethiopia, including the rise of internally displaced people (IDPs) due to the conflict in the northern part of the country.
Due the atrocities the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) caused on Eritrean refugees who have been sheltered in Tigray, the refugees are now getting newly built camps in Amhara region, Demeke told Rauf.
The Foreign Ministry on its face book page stated that Mazou for his part pledged to further collaborate with the Ethiopian government to properly address the matter and share responsibilities in supporting refugees sheltered in Ethiopia.
