DPM and FM Demeke, Italian Foreign Minister discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest
Addis Ababa, June 13, 2022 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen has received at his office and discussed with Foreign Minister of Italy, Luigi Di Maio issues of mutual interest.
The two gave a joint press briefing to journalists after the end of their discussion. On the occasion, Demeke said their discussion was focused on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Saying that Ethiopia and Italy have been enjoying a longstanding bilateral relationship, Demeke praised Italy for its unbiased stance on the current situation in the country.
The discussion was fruitful in exploring ways to enhancing economic cooperation between Ethiopia and Italy.
Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, for his part, appreciated Ethiopia’s efforts to ensure peace in the country. He also commended Ethiopia’s commitment to unfettered access to humanitarian operations into Tigray region, reiterating his government’s readiness to continue support to this end.
He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Ethiopia for facilitating conducive environment to Italian investors who are engaged in various areas in Ethiopia.
It is stated on the occasion that 16 Italian companies are engaged in Ethiopia in the agricultural and industrial sectors.
Ethiopian investors are to participate in an economic forum to be held in Rome this year.
