Diversity is the foundation of Ethiopia – HoF Speaker
Addis Ababa, December 9, 2023 (FBC) – Diversity is the fabric on which Ethiopia is built, that strengthens mutual interaction and solidarity, the Speaker of the FDRE House of Federation Mr. Agegnehu Teshager said while delivering a speech at the celebration of the 18th Ethiopianness Day.
The 18th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day (Ethiopianness Day), which is being celebrated with various events since November 25, 2016, is being held in Jigjiga City, Somali Region, under the theme ‘Diversity and Equality for National Unity’.
Mr. Agegnehu, in his speech at the celebration, said that diversity is not based on the idea of absolute supremacy, but is an expression of identity based on the principle of equality and equality.
According to him, if diversity is handled properly, it is an opportunity and wealth. Diversity is the foundation on which Ethiopia is built, that strengthens solidarity and unanimity.
Diversity is believed to be ‘not a debt but a reward’ for Ethiopians, Mr. Agegnehu asserted.
“We need to strengthen our national unity system based on equality, preserve it through consultation and understanding when we face challenges, so that our unity built on diversified identities is not eroded by petty excuses,” he underscored.
The celebration of this day has contributed in cementing harmony and nationalism, Agegnehu added.
Egocentrism will only bear extremism, the Speaker said while emphasizing the importance of strengthening national unity in order to uphold Ethiopianness.
“Differences should be resolved through dialogue by agreeing on ideas that bring us closer and strengthen national unity,” he underlined.
According to Agegnehu, all Ethiopians are responsible in playing their role to upholding the rule of law, peace and prosperity. He also called on everyone to do their part to build a strong united nation based on mutual narrative.
