Diplomats of various countries impressed by the progress and level GERD

Addis Ababa, November 6, 2024 (FBC) The ambassadors of various countries based in Addis Ababa have expressed their astonishment at the progress made by the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the level it has reached.

The diplomats shared their impressions with FBC after visiting the dam’s construction site on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. During their tour of the GERD, the ambassadors were accompanied by Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Engineer Habtamu Itefa.

During their tour of the GERD, the ambassadors witnessed firsthand Ethiopia’s success in the Green Legacy Program, which was scientifically elaborated during the inaugural International Hydromete Conference in Addis Ababa on Monday which was held in the presence of the ambassadors, the Minister stated while sharing his thoughts on the diplomatic community’s visit to GERD.

They also observed that the dam is releasing an adequate amount of water for the downstream countries, according to Habtamu.

The U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin J. Massinga, who was part of the visiting delegation, expressed his surprise at the construction process and the level of the dam.

Massinga congratulated the people and government of Ethiopia for their unwavering efforts to make the dam a success.

For his part, the Ambassador of India to Ethiopia, Anil Kumar Rai, stated that Ethiopians should be proud of the great legacy they are leaving for future generations by building the dam with their own capabilities. The ambassador mentioned that he was informed about the dam and learned that the GERD will strengthen regional cooperation. According to him, this project is important not only for Ethiopia but also for the neighboring countries.

It was mentioned the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is not only a significant achievement for Ethiopia but also a symbol of regional cooperation and sustainable development in the Horn of Africa.
