Diaspora ramp up support to Koysha, Wenchi and Gorgora Projects: MoFA, Agency
Addis Ababa, February 1, 2021 (FBC) – In an exclusive interview with FBC, State Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano said the Diaspora has been in frontline in supporting national initiatives at home since the last couple of years.
Members of the Diaspora are ramping up their response to government’s all call through supporting development initiatives and humanitarian activities, the State Minister noted.
Koysha, Wenchi and Gorgora national projects which are being carried out under “Dine for Ethiopia” national initiative are witnessing increasing support from the Diaspora community, the State Minister underlined.
Involvement of the Diaspora is being manifested in Knowledge sharing, financial support and technology transfer, among others, she said.
Selamawit Dawit, Director General of Ethiopian Diaspora Agency, to her part, told FBC that the breakthrough in the ongoing national reform agenda served as a turning point for the materialization of the increased participation of the Diaspora in the overall activity of the country.
Regarding support of the Diaspora to national mega projects, Selamawit said the active involvement of the Diaspora ranges from Beautifying Sheger Project to recently launched national projects of Koysha, Wenchi and Gorgora parks development.
Ambassador Birtukan underlined that the Diaspora is enjoying true sense of belongingness to all the social, economic and political activities in the country.
The first phase filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is also among the mega projects that motivated the Diaspora Community to reinforce their support, according to the State Minister.
The State Minister said Ethiopians in the Diaspora contributed more than 27 Million Birr for national beautification and greenery projects after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had called up on them to participate in the groundbreaking initiatives.
Successful completion of Unity and Entoto Parks have also inspired the Diaspora to augment their contribution to the “Dine for Ethiopia” national initiative that includes Koysha, Wenchi and Gorgora Parks development in the country, Selamawit noted.
