Diaspora Investment Forum held in Washington D.C.
Addis Ababa, April 15, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian Diaspora Investment Forum held in Washington D.C. in participation of investors of Ethiopian origin in the USA, some of them already started operations in Ethiopia.
The Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide reaffirmed government’s commitment to provide all the necessary support to Ethiopian investors working at home and abroad so that they can utilize immense investment opportunities in the country.
He stated that the government is working with full commitment to ensure that the ongoing process to bring last peace keeps its momentum.
The Government has put in place enabling frameworks to help the private sector play a crucial role in the ongoing homegrown economic reform. The government will engage in only limited investment sector leaving the wider proportion to the private sector, according to the Embassy in Washington D.C.
Ethiopian investors in the Diaspora particular in the U.S. are urged to bring their resources, experience and knowledge to their homeland and utile the immense investment potentials individually and in partnership with local actors.
The Governor General of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Mamo Mihretu, on his part, announced that ninety percent of the loans facilitated by banks to encourage investment are being made available to the private sector.
Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission Lelise Neme noted that practical policy reforms have been made to make Ethiopia more convenient for investors.
Lelise stated that activities are underway to address the bureaucratic and related hurdles faced by investors in terms of market survey, licensing, operation and beyond.
Ethiopia has immense and untapped investment potential in agriculture, industry and service sectors, especially in the industrial parks, manufacturing, health, logistics and tourism.
