Diaspora contributes over $50mln to GERD construction

Addis Ababa, March 25, 2023 (FBC) – Members of the Ethiopian Diaspora Community living in several parts of the world have contributed more than 50 million USD to the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) spanning from the beginning of the project until now.

Communication Director at the Ethiopian Diaspora Service, Wondesen Girma said apart from their financial contribution members of the Ethiopian Diaspora Community are supporting the construction of the dam with their labor, knowledge and ideas.

Moreover, the Diaspora if fending off external pressures intended to distract the construction process, and throwing light on Ethiopia’s position on the amicable and reasonable use of the Abay river at international platforms, he said.

The construction of dam is fully funded by the government and people of Ethiopia.
