Deputy PM Temesgen entrusts private sector to drive digitalization efforts

Addis Ababa, August 29, 2024 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh has emphasized the immense potential of involving the private sector in the implementation of the second phase of Ethiopia’s Homegrown Economic Reform (HGER 2.0) policy.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the special trade week, which ran for five consecutive days and featured various events under the theme “Buy Ethiopia’s Products,” the Deputy Prime Minister praised the role of the private sector in the government’s development endeavors.

The trade week, organized by the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI), aimed to promote the locally manufactured import substitution products. It is indicated that this event also provided a platform for both domestic and international buyers to explore business opportunities and strengthen trade relations.

During the closing event, Deputy PM Temesgen acknowledged the crucial role of the private sector in the government’s initiatives and encouraged active participation to expedite the implementation of digitalization efforts, which are designed to enhance production, trade, and related processes.

Recalling the opportunities provided by the government for the private sector to participate in the pillars essential for the successful implementation of the Homegrown Economic Reform program, he emphasized the importance of collective efforts to prevent issues related to infrastructure and peace from hindering the manufacturing and trade sectors.

A panel discussion focused on cementing public-private partnerships was held at the closing event, and members of the business community that demonstrated superior performance were recognized.

The closing event brought together regional chief administrators, ministers, and diplomats from various countries based in Addis Ababa.
