Deputy PM, FM Demeke affirms Ethiopia’s readiness to resist, respond to potential disasters
Addis Ababa, December 14, 2021 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minster and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen said that Ethiopia has built resilience and preparedness to effectively respond to natural hazards that might happen in the future apart from the ongoing military measures against the terrorist TPLF Group.
The Deputy Premier delivered working directives to executive bodies regarding the activities to be carried out by the National Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Committee.
Chairperson of the National Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke reaffirmed commitment of the government to continue military offensive against the terrorist TPLF.
Government has finalized preparedness to withstand drought and other natural disasters that might occur in areas that have been liberated recently from the terrorist group aggression and other pastoral areas.
Demeke stressed need to concerted efforts to continue emergency humanitarian assistance, and carry out the rehabilitation and reinstatement activities in areas affected by the aggression of the terrorist group.
Saying that Ethiopia is vulnerable to hazardous conditions due to its geographic location and other economic and social constraints, the Deputy Prime Minister added that the government is ready to resist any natural disasters and respond accordingly if they might happen in the future.
