Deputy PM calls for continued efforts to mitigate impact of locust swarms
Addis Ababa, October 17, 2020 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen called for continued efforts to mitigate devastating effects the locust swarms infestations descended on many parts of the country.
The 8th conference of the Ethiopian River Basin Development High Council held in Addis Ababa deliberated on potential threats the country is facing due to flooding, locust swarms and water hyacinth infestations.
The Deputy Prime Minister who presided over the conference noted that the locust swarms descended on wider parts of the country has been casing devastating damage to mature crops.
Highlighting the multifaceted efforts underway to curtail the locust swarms, the Deputy Prime Minister said the country is bringing in additional spraying planes to bolster responses against the disaster.
Deputy Prime Minister Demeke further called up on stakeholders to contribute their share in the fight against the locust swarms infestation.
