Deputy PM assesses endeavors to ramp up humanitarian delivery to Tigray via Afar
Addis Ababa, June 4, 2022 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Demeke Mekonnen has assessed endeavors underway to ramp up humanitarian delivery into Tigray via Afar region at Serdo Checkpoint in the region.
On the occasion, Demeke stressed need to reinforce surveillance at the post to prevent smuggle of supplies bound to the terrorist TPLF through corridor.
Demeke appreciated the commitment of the people of Afar to facilitate safe inlet for the relief operation towards Tigray in spite of the fact the region is accommodating more than 1 million IDPs fled their homes due to the aggression by the terrorist TPLF.
The Government has been closely working with UN agencies and international partners to address the growing humanitarian needs inflicted by both manmade and natural disasters, reiterating unfettered access to relief aid to those in need.
