Deputy PM and FM Demeke confers with WFP Chief David Beasley

Addis Ababa, September 21, 2021 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen has conferred with WFP Executive Director David Beasley on the sidelines of the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke underlined that government’s commitment in responding to humanitarian need in northern parts of the country should be given proper recognition.

Appreciating the partnership between the Ethiopian government and the WFP in addressing the humanitarian situation in affected areas calling for enhanced participation of partners to meet the growing demand.

He said that biased reports and groundless accusations are being issued against the government regarding the humanitarian situation despite ongoing efforts in delivering emergency assistance to people in need in affected areas.
