Denmark commits to working with Ethiopia in the agriculture sector
Addis Ababa, April 16, 2024 (FBC) – The Danish Council for Development Policy announced its commitment to cement cooperation with Ethiopia in the agriculture sector.
Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente (PhD) received a Danish delegation led by Chairperson of the Danish Development Policy Council, Anne Mette Kjær.
In their discussions, the two sides stressed the need for Denmark to strengthen its support and partnership with Ethiopia in the agriculture sector.
The Agriculture Minister thanked Denmark for its continued support the efforts to transform agricultural productivity in Ethiopia.
Girma explained about the activities Ethiopia has been undertaking in the last five years to mitigate the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector, citing the planting of 32.78 seedlings as an exemplary in this regard.
The Minister also indicated that the Irrigated Wheat Farming and the ‘Bounty of Basket’ or Yelemat Tirufat initiatives are contributing their part in advancing the agriculture.
He also shared the experiences in the Development Safety Net Program, Agricultural Commercialization Cluster and Green Development activities he said instrumental to mitigate climate change.
He said the government is working aggressively to realize the transformation of Agriculture through increased product, asking the Danish government to continue supporting these efforts.
The delegation, for its part, thanked the Ministery for its detailed presentations in the agricultural sector, pledging the commitment of the Danish government to continue collaboration with Ethiopia in the efforts to transform the agriculture sector.
