Defence army takes measures against 42 anti-peace elements in Metekel zone

Addis Ababa, December 24, 2020 (FBC) –The national defence army has destroyed 42 anti-peace elements in Metekel zone, Benishangul Gumuz regional state.

The anti-peace elements yesterday killed innocent civilian in Bulen woreda, Bekuji Kebele of Metekel zone, yesterday.

The defence army also seized several weapons and bow and arrows, according to the regional state’s communication affairs office.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed this morning announced the deployment of defence army to address the root causes of the security problem in the zone.

In a related development, the regional state arrested seven officials in connection with the massacre.

Among those arrested include:

1. Tomas Kuwi- State Minister of Labour and Social Affairs

2. Adigo Amsaya -Former Deputy Chief Administrator of the regional state

3. Shiferaw Cheliso- Former Director of Science and Technology Agency of the regional state

4. Banding Mara- Head of Metekel Zone Prosperity Party Office

5. Arega Balbid- Former leadership of Metekel zone.
