Cuba renews commitment to deepen ties with Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, May 31, 2021 (FBC) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Cuba, Shibru Mamo held talks with Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on various bilateral and other issues of mutual interest.
The two discussed the nomination of Dr. Arkebe Okubay, senior advisor of the Prime Minister, for the position of Executive Director of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and several bilateral issues.
Ambassador Shibru told the Cuban FM that the 34th Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government has approved candidature of Dr. Arkebe Okubay as the sole African nominee for the position of Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The ambassador assured Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla that Ethiopia is following amicable approach to resolve dispute with Sudan and Egypt through peaceful mechanisms.
Ethiopia stick to peaceful solution to the border dispute with Sudan, delivering humanitarian aid to people in need in Tigray and finalized preparations for upcoming general election, elaborated Ambassador Shibru.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla reaffirmed support of his country to the undergoing political and economic reforms in Ethiopia pledging commitment to further enhance multifaceted cooperation with Ethiopia. Cuba also support candidature of Dr. Arkebe Okubay for UNIDO, he added.
Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla reiterated that Cuba has full confidence that Ethiopia can address its domestic circumstances without intervention of any external force.
