Corporation says 30 out of 33 textile factories export apparel to US under AGOA
Addis Ababa, October 19, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation CEO said that 30 out of 33 textile factories in the country’s industrial parks export apparel to the United States under African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
According to the CEO, the textile factories have facilitated employment opportunities to 85,000 Ethiopians.
The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is a United States Trade Act, enacted on 18 May 2000 as Public Law 106 of the 200th Congress to enhance market access to the US for qualifying Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries.
These days, some organizations and groups are pushing the US to pull Ethiopia out of AGOA, the CEO indicated.
Removing Ethiopia from the AGOA will negatively affect thousands of households and bring social chaos among many Ethiopians, he said calling the Biden Administration those pushing it to impose sanction to rethink their move.
