Addis Ababa, February 15, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Electric Utility has signed a contract with four companies to electrify 25 rural towns with Solar Off-Grid system.
Water, Irrigation and Energy Minister, Dr. Seleshi Bekele, officials of Ethiopian Electric Utility and other high level officials have presided over the signing ceremony.
More than 145 people will benefit from the electrification project to be implemented in selected rural towns of eight regions, it is stated on the occasion.
The installation is to be carried out with a budget of 20 Million US Dollars secured from African Development Bank and additional 161 Million Birr from Ethiopian government.
It is stated that a project to be carried out by three Chinese and One Korean companies is expected to be completed within six months and has a capacity of producing 8 mega watts electricity.
Out of 12 Solar Off-Grid projects whose construction started last year, eight have completed and gone operational, it is indicated.
