Construction of GERD 90 percent complete: Coordination Office

Addis Ababa, March 23, 2023 (FBC) – The construction of the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has reached 90 percent, according to the Office of National Coordination for the Construction of the Dam.

On the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of GERD, the Office of National Coordination for the Construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam briefed the media on the work carried out so far and the plans to be done in the future.

It its media briefing, the Coordination Office acknowledged the contributions made by Ethiopians living in the country and abroad to the dam in terms of money, expertise, and labor works and as well as those who defended the dam on international diplomatic stages.

It was stated that 50 percent of the 2 billion birr planned to be collected in the current Ethiopian financial year through bond sales, art exhibitions, and other means of fundraising.

Furthermore, it is stated that a bond sale event will be held on March 25 in Benishangul Gumuz Region, Assosa City, aiming to raise 100 million birr.
