Commission to deploy security forces with special training during elections
Addis Ababa, February 5, 2021 (FBC) – Federal Police Deputy Commissioner General and Head of Crime Investigation Bureau Zelalem Mengiste said as the government is committed to making the upcoming elections free and fair, adding that security forces at all levels are undertaking preparations for the same cause.
All security forces and key stakeholders including the Federal Police and the National Defense Forces as well as state chiefs are members of the national security committee established for this purpose, he said.
He disclosed that the committee is led by Gedu Andaregachew, a National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister.
The Deputy Commissioner told EPA that the Ethiopian security forces have been preparing to discharge their responsibilities professionally to ensure the safety and security of the upcoming elections.
“The coming elections are not only about winning and losing but are essential for the future survival of the country,” the Deputy Commissioner said. “Hence, the issue of peace and security will have a key role for the proper conduct of the elections.”
