Commission outlines activities for successful National Dialogue
Addis Ababa, May 9, 2022 (FBC) – The National Dialogue Commission said it has been dividing activities into four major phases with a view to ensuring successful deliberation that will address contentious problems in a peaceful and sustainable manner.
Commission Chairperson Professor Mesfin Araya told EPA that activities have been divided into four such as preliminary preparation, preparation, dialogue process and implementation so as to hold inclusive and transparent dialogue its outcome could be acceptable by all parties. The commission has been preparing strategic and action plans meticulously that would support the dialogue process and it will discuss with relevant stakeholders to garner feedback.
The chairperson further noted that they aspire to conduct inclusive dialogue among stakeholders that will efficiently create national consensus and narrow the age-old differences among the political forces and the public at large. All stakeholders should contribute share for the commission’s mission and nurture the culture of dialogue in Ethiopia. Laying dialogue foundation by itself is also an asset for future activities.
As to him, the commission envisions to collect dialogue agendas from grass root level and the community. Extensive discussions will be held on each agenda at each level. “If we cannot execute activities in each stage carefully, getting the intended outcome would be difficult and we remain vigilant in the whole process.”
Also, the commission has been conducting continuous discussions and consultations with civil organizations, political parties, community representatives and other pertinent stakeholders.
As the task needs impartiality and responsibility, the commission’s noninvolvement will be demonstrated by its future activities or via process. To make the effort successful, the contribution of mainstream and social media is great, Professor Mesfin emphasized.
