China’s Shenzhen launches food delivery service using drones

Moscow, January 4, 2025 (TV BRICS) – A Chinese online platform has organised about 30 food delivery routes using drones in Shenzhen City, south China’s Guangdong Province, which has already resulted in more than 300,000 processed orders. The service is accessible in office buildings, residential neighbourhoods, tourist routes and educational institutions.

At the annual Central Economic Work Conference, China stated its intention to take steps to promote scientific and technological innovation that will contribute to the creation of a modern industrial system. This is reported by CGTN, a partner of TV BRICS.

The low-level economy sector, including traditional aviation and drone-enabled services, is emerging as an important component of the country’s new manufacturing capability. This year, it was first spotted in a government jobs report.

According to the report, prepared by a research institute under China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the sector’s value reached 505.95 billion yuan (about US$70.92 billion) in 2023 and is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan (US$136 billion) by 2026.
