China stands ready to be the partner of Ethiopia at all times – Ambassador

Addis Ababa, January 2, 2025 (FMC) – In a message delivered on the occasion of the Gregorian New Year, the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the country’s rich history, vibrant civilization, and industrious people during his first four months in office.

Ambassador Chen highlighted the remarkable transformations occurring in Addis Ababa, often referred to as the “heart of Africa.” He shared personal experiences of exploring the coffee harvests in Yirgacheffe and the scenic views at Lake Hawassa, emphasizing the region’s allure and cultural significance.

Reflecting on 2024, he noted Ethiopia’s substantial achievements, including its inaugural participation in the BRICS Summit since joining the organization. The signing of the Ankara Declaration aimed at promoting regional stability, alongside ongoing national dialogue, underscores Ethiopia’s commitment to peace and prosperity.

As a key development, Ambassador Chen pointed out the influx of Chinese tourists and investors arriving in Ethiopia, facilitated by the policies enacted during the FOCAC Beijing Summit. He lauded the contributions of the Chinese community, stating that their diligence and resilience not only elevate their own prospects but also enhance Ethiopia’s economic landscape.

Looking ahead to 2025, which marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia, the ambassador reaffirmed China’s commitment to collaborate with Ethiopian stakeholders in harnessing the potential of sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and digitization. He asserted that increased involvement from Chinese companies would significantly accelerate development efforts in the nation.

Ambassador Chen pledged continued support from China in fostering national peace and solidarity in Ethiopia while expressing intent to collaborate on multilateral platforms like BRICS and the United Nations. He emphasized the need for a concerted approach towards implementing the Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa, aiming to strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership between China and Ethiopia.

In conclusion, Chen expressed China’s readiness to accompany Ethiopia on its path to modernization, reaffirming a long-term commitment to their bilateral relationship for a prosperous future.
