China actively engages in enhancing cooperation with Ethiopia: Ambassador

Addis Ababa, December 27, 2024 (FMC) – The joint efforts of bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and China would play constructive role in the regional as well as the international arenas at large, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai remarked.

Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai said that China is actively engaged in enhancing its cooperation with Ethiopia, emphasizing the depth of the longstanding relationship, which spans multiple sectors and has recently been elevated to an all-weather strategic cooperation partnership.

“China and Ethiopia should go together and play important role especially among global South. No matter is raining, winding or even snowing; we always get together; join our efforts together; help and support each other,” he stated.

Moreover, he highlighted the significant role of the bilateral partnership between Ethiopia and China to play constructive role in fostering regional and international cooperation.

The ambassador pointed out that China has recognized Ethiopia’s strategic significance within Africa, placing considerable emphasis on its bilateral relations.

The ambassador described Ethiopia as a gateway for Africa, a major power and hub of the region and the continent, stressing that China considers Ethiopia as an important strategic partner on the continent.

Highlighting the two countries’ partnership has been upgraded to an All Weather Strategic Cooperation Partnership; the ambassador noted that the joint efforts as a focus of global south cooperation would play a more important role not only in the regional but also in the international arenas.

“Ethiopia is a major partner, a major power in the region and the continent. It is a get way; it is the hub and enjoys very strategic status… We join our efforts as representatives from global South to play a more important role in the region and international arenas.”

Furthermore, the ambassador said that the two countries have been enjoying mutual benefits, with China actively collaborating with Ethiopia in various and trade investment areas.

He stated: “Hundreds of thousand Chinese business man and investors have been in Ethiopia. More and more Chinese investors are coming to Ethiopia to try to look for business opportunities. It is a good period for both sides to explore more opportunities for cooperation.”

The ambassador pointed out that while substantial progress has been made, given Ethiopia’s significant potential for trade and investment, much remains to be done to fully utilize and capitalize on the opportunities for the benefit of both nations.

“I am very encouraged with the potential and resources of Ethiopia; we should go together.”

Finally, the ambassador expressed his commitment to working diligently to elevate trade and investment relations, ensuring that both Ethiopia and China can reap the benefits of their strategic alliance.
