Canada reaffirms continued backing to key priority areas in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, May 15, 2024 (FBC) – Mr. Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, met with Ahmed Hussain, the Minister of International Development of Canada, to discuss economic cooperation between their two countries.
During the meeting, Minister Ahmed Shide expressed his appreciation for the Government of Canada’s unwavering support for Ethiopia’s development efforts, both bilaterally and multilaterally. He underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in light of Ethiopia’s recent developments and ongoing reforms.
Ahmed Hussain, for his part, conveyed his appreciation for the recent development initiatives in Ethiopia. He reiterated his country’s commitment to supporting key priority areas such as Safety Net programs and peacebuilding activities.
The two parties also delved into various shared interests, encompassing bilateral, multilateral, and regional development concerns.
In a demonstration of this dedication, the Canadian Minister announced on Tuesday a $14 million contribution towards Demobilization, Disarmament, and Reintegration (DDR) initiatives in Ethiopia.
Since arriving in Ethiopia on Monday, the Canadian minister has engaged in discussions with his Ethiopian counterpart Taye Atske-Sellasie and other officials.
