Burundi says waiting for completion of GERD to purchase electricity from Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2021 (FBC) –Ambassador of Ethiopia to Uganda Alemtsehay Meseret has held discussion with Ibrahim Uwizeye, Minister of Water, Energy and Mineral of Burundi.

Their discussion mainly focused on issues related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The ambassador briefed the Minister on the current status of GERD and Ethiopia’s plan to continue the second stage of filling the dam per scheduled.

Stressing the importance of electricity for development and growth, the Burundian Minister said his country is waiting for the completion of the dam to purchase electricity from Ethiopia.
