Brazilian Foreign Minister to visit Ethiopia tomorrow
Addis Ababa, June 4, 2023 (FBC) – Brazil’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira is expected to pay an official visit to Ethiopia starting from tomorrow, the country’s ambassador disclosed.
In an exclusive interview with EPA, Brazilian Ambassador to Ethiopia Jandyr Ferreira Dos Santos said the delegation set to discuss the political and economic cooperation of the two countries with high-level officials including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The delegation is also expected to confer with the African Union Commissioner Moussa Faki Mahamat on issues of mutual concern.
During his visit, the FM will covey President Lula’s message that Africa is a priority for Brazil and the latter want to scale up the partnership and cooperation with Ethiopia and the continent at large.
“Development cooperation is an essential axis of Brazil’s foreign policy with Africa and my country is desirous to foster partnership in agriculture, health, and other frontiers.”
Ethiopia and Brazil have enjoyed warm relations and share a range of common positions in international organizations including at the United Nations.
Ethiopia reopened its embassy in Brasilia this year and the annual trade exchange between the two nations is increasing from time to time.
“Yet, still a lot of room for growth,” Ambassador Dos Santos added. Minister Vieira already visited Ethiopia back in 2016 during President Dilma Rousseff’s administration.
