Below-normal rainfall expected in most parts of Greater Horn of Africa – IGAD

Addis Ababa, January 29, 2025 (FMC) – Below-normal rainfall is expected in most parts of the Greater Horn of Africa region between March and May 2025, according to Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)’s latest forecast report.

The latest seasonal climate forecast indicates that most parts of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) are expected to experience below-normal rainfall from March to May 2025. This could have significant implications for agriculture, water availability, and food security across the region, the regional bloc stated in a social media post published today.

In that regard, IGAD urged governments, humanitarian partners, and stakeholders to proactively implement early warning and response measures to mitigate potential impacts.

It was mentioned that investments in climate adaptation, water conservation, and drought preparedness will be critical in safeguarding livelihoods.
