AU Chairperson Azali Assoumani calls for Russia-Ukraine ceasefire
Saintpetersburg, July 28, 2023 (FBC) – African Union Chairman and President of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, in his address at the end of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum on Friday, called for a ceasefire for the Russia-Ukraine situation.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has highly affected the global economy, the Chairman said.
Appreciating the measures taken by the Russian Federation to minimize further impacts of the conflict including the grain deal and transportation of fertilizers, Azai Assoumani called on all parties to seek peaceful solutions through dialogue.
“If Russia wins Everybody wins” the AU Chairman said, calling President Putin to add new impetus to the Russia-Africa relations.
Azali Assoumani underscored that “Russia Stood with African nations during their difficult times,”. He recalled that Russia supported African nations during their struggle against the apartheid colonial system and slavery, stressing the need to maintain the longstanding historical ties between the federation and the continent.
“Africa has immense resource potentials. The problem is the incapability to tap this potential. We need Russia to explore such opportunities,” he said, calling the Russian Federation to support agriculture and industrialization in the continent.
Africa needs to be part of the G20 and other international systems to pass its decision on the multipolar world, he added.
