AU aspires to manufacture 60 percent of vaccine inside African continent by 2040

Addis Ababa, March 25, 2025 (FMC) – The African Union (AU) stated that it is aspiring to manufacture 60 percent of vaccine inside the African continent by 2040.

Development finance institutions—including African Export Import Bank – #Afreximbank, African Development Bank Group, European Investment Bank, World Bank, IFC – International Finance Corporation and AFD – Agence Française de Développement are stepping up to accelerate Africa’s pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing ambitions, marking a new phase in the continent’s push for self-sufficiency in health products.

Funding proposals were presented during the 2nd Vaccine and Health Products Manufacturing Forum, held in Cairo last month.
