Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank affirms readiness to work closely with Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, November 29, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Finance Minister Ahmed Shide held an in-depth discussion today at his office with the President and Chair of the Board of Directors of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Mr. Jin Liqun on strengthening cooperation between the Ethiopian government and the bank.
It was indicated that both sides extensively discussed the cooperation between AIIB and the Ministry of Finance and the efforts to accelerate Ethiopia’s economic growth, especially the country’s long-term development program, the homegrown economic reform program, the role of the private sector in economic growth, and the efforts to create a favorable macroeconomic environment.
On the occasion, Mr. Ahmed Shide has asked the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, as a major institution that finances infrastructure projects, to finance the construction of the new Ethiopian Airlines airport and renewable energy mega projects.
Accordingly, both sides have reportedly reached consensus to cooperate in the aforementioned projects.
Mr. Jin Liqun, for his part, stated that this is his first-ever visit to Ethiopia as the head of AIIB, affirming that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is committed to working with the government and people of Ethiopia.
The President also indicated that the Bank is ready to work with the World Bank Group (WB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and other stakeholders on Ethiopia’s development programs, expressing his belief in the bright future of Ethiopia.
