ANOCA to hold annual meeting in Addis Ababa on Sunday
Addis Ababa, December 4, 2020 (FBC) -The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) will hold its annual general assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Sunday.
The meeting of the organization that unites the 54 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Africa will deliberate on key issues about the continent’s Olympic sports.
More than 250 participants, including journalist from 52 countries, have confirmed their participation in the meeting, according to Ashebir Woldegiorgis, President of Ethiopian Olympic Committee.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will receive the ANOCA Order of Merit award in recognition to his exemplary commitment in support of Ethiopian sports and services to the Olympic Movement.
ANOCA Executive Board decided to award its highest African Sport recognition to the Prime Minister last August. The ANOCA Order of Merit is awarded to heads of state and sovereign characters.
In a related development, Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia welcomed to his office yesterday, the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Mustapha Berraf.
Mustapha is in Addis Ababa to attend the Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (ANOCA) Extraordinary General assembly which will be held on the upcoming Sunday.
On the occasion, Demeke briefed the ANOCA president about the potential of Ethiopian regional cities to host international sports competitions mentioning the construction of stadiums and sports facilities in various parts of the country.
Mustapha thanked the minister for meeting with him on such short notice and affirmed that ANOCA would continue to work closely with relevant bodies in Ethiopia.
